Muses & Morphs

Hey, all. I have a question regarding Muses and a use for them that isn't really touched on.

Could a Muse sleeve into a Morph? I'm specifically asking about a synthmorph Flexbot, but I'm curious as to whether or not they could control any morph or robot.

I think so

I'm pretty sure they are able to do so, though they'll probably not be very happy with the situation unless it's done that sort of thing before.

usually they end up running Guardians, Servitors, and Creepies.

ALIs can pilot anything with

ALIs can pilot anything with a cyberbrain (and many things that don't).

The Mesh, p. 12

Quote:

SLEEVING
ALIs use their own individual infomorphs. ALIs may be sleeved into
any morph with a cyberbrain. They may not be downloaded into
biomorphs with biological brains.

They can also run on motes.

The Mesh, p. 6, Motes second paragraph

Quote:

Motes have only public and admin accounts (p. XX). Motes are
capable of running only dedicated ALIs; they may not run other
infomorphs.

When it says "Dedicated ALIs"

When it says "Dedicated ALIs", does that mean ALIs of a specialization suited to the Mote in question? Like, a Vending Machine Mote can't run a Kaos ALI in it? Your Muse won't fit into an automated gun turret?

Generally yes motes can run

Generally yes motes can run only dedicated ALIs. Think of it as trying to run a computer game on a toaster. A game optimized to be played on a toaster will run. Like all those doom emulators.

Kaos ALI would seem to be exception as it is an attack program designed to maximize chaos so it should be able to run on mostly anything to maximize disruption. It is more like a computer virus in that regard

I tried looking, but the source material isn't clear what "Dedicated ALIs" are. They also don't have any rules. I'll be nice and rule that any mote can run any ALI. Its up to the ALI's programing (skills and behavior) to determine if this was a good idea or not.

I forgot to mention that Muses don't have much in skills for physical activity. Sleeving a Muse into a flexbot or any other morph will not likely do you much good. I consider skills like walking, basic melee, and basic guns to be simple enough to do without training, but I stick to ALIs can't default for most other things.

I ask because I'd really just like the Flexbot to be able to operate semi-independently of my character. That way she could tell it to shape-change into Battle Armor, a Weapon Mount, whatever, while she does her own thing without having to Sleeve into it or remotely-operate it.

I think in one of the 1st ed adventures (Glory, maybe?) a muse was sleeved into a Biomorph taken from a Firewall operative, can't remember if that body had a cyberbrain, but it's not a stretch of the rules to place a puppet sock and a ghostrider module on a biomorph in a few hours.

Remember you can always use a Beta fork or yourself... (or another player's, for extra support if that one is the Infosec specialist, for example).

Page 12 of The Mesh says

Page 12 of The Mesh says "ALIs cannot default; if they don’t possess a skill, they can’t use it."

Based on this, I would probably say that they would fail if you need to make a test (say Athletics or Free Fall to move, or Melee to attack). However, I would probably let them move the morph any time a test wouldn't be needed.

I imagine it is Glory, with Achilles and Tortoise. Achilles is an anthroform synth with a ghostrider module, but it's not clear that there's a cyberbrain in there (Tortoise is in the ghostrider).

It seems like you could run your muse in the cyberbrain instead, if you don't add a ghostrider. I suspect your muse could run in your head, and remotely jam the Flexbot as well (though I guess this would require an integration test). Since the muse will likely fail the integration test, you'll probably find the Flexbot to be exceptionally clumsy.
